Is what’s trending relevant or not?

We have mentioned many times before in our previous blogs that your page needs to remain relevant to what is trending, but that does not mean that you need to follow every trend.

What is relevant to your page?

  • Special Occasions/holidays

This is a trend that all pages can get behind based on the religion, culture and nationality of the company’s origin and the people who work there. Create posts that are related to your brand based on occasions such as Christmas, the New Year, Easter, Halloween, Public Holidays etc. These posts can be as simple as well wishes, or interaction posts asking followers about their traditions or plans around these occasions for example. Promotional posts and competitions can also be created around these holidays.

  • Big events

This is a trend that not all pages should follow. Big events such as the Soccer or Rugby World Cup, Miss Universe and Miss World, award show’s such as BET, VMA’S etc. This is a trend that should be followed by pages that are related to these types of events such as a retail page, a beauty page, an entertainment page. You get the point.

  • Trending #hashtags

Hashtags are a great way to get your content noticed by people who are not your followers. But do not add a trending hashtag to your post if it does not relate to your post or brand.

  • Creative trends

These are fun trends to try by all pages. Remember all the posts that were created using “tap to see” – a longer image appeared when clicking into it. These trends don’t usually last long so it’s best to act fast while it is still a trend but try get as creative and different as possible and relate it to your page.

Just because you can do it all, doesn’t mean you have to. Be selective in the trends you follow as a page and ensure it is relevant and has a purpose. Also have fun with it and get creative and engage with your followers.  Be a part of the conversation that is happening online but remember to be true to your brand.

Let’s have a chat about what is trending and what is relevant for your brand to follow on social media!
